Background of Stephen Caggiano : Stephen was formerly with the food and wine industry with Court of Master Sommeliers. He started part time on social media in Orlando, FL and eventually moved to full time which he has been doing for 4 years already. He builds Twitter profiles, Facebook pages as the Digital Cat Herder.

What we discussed:

  • We got together with Stephen because of the Applebee's campaign #tastethechange that took place in St. Louis Park. Bottom line for getting together is Periscope.
  • Periscope is liv-streaming social media app.
  • At the Applebee's event, among others, were Jonathan Brewer, director of To Be The Change Revolutions, Brian Fanzo @iSocialFanz, Vincenzo Landino, Sunny, Aaron Beibert (@8pmWarrior) who heads Attention Era that broadcasted the campaign.
  • Applebee's event closed out a digital footprint of over a billion impressions for just a day campaign.
  • Applebee's is a brand that gets social and knows how to connect with their audience.
  • Applebee's utilizes new technology for brand advocacy.
  • Nowadays, attention is the currency in social -- communicating TO the audience instead of talking AT the audience.
  • In Periscope, you know your audience is tuned in and paying attention by a show of hearts.
  • A user is allowed maximum 500 hearts to give at a given session and needs to leave the broadcast and back in.
  • Meerkat, another live streaming app, has the value of proposition build around engagement -- users have to share your broadcast, liking it and talking to you.
  • You may use a tool, SiderQube to auto aggregate hashtags within a brand chat so in Meerkat, if you have a brand, get people to use your hashtag in the Meerkat chat.
  • SpiderQube serves as an automated CRM where you can go back and re-engage everyone that was talking to your brand.
  • SpiderQube is with OneQube with Robert (@MediaLabRat) as the creator.
  • We need to keep up with the latest in social.

  • Interaction and feedback is instant like on a web chat.
  • You probably need to be careful of who you are following because all of those alerts can go crazy.
  • When you hope on, make sure you're giving value.
  • Sign up on Periscope, watch some Periscopes and learn how it works.
  • Q: How do I send hearts? A: Just tap on your phone screen.
  • You can tap up to 500 hearts.
  • Kim Garst, a social media guru, has created an actual course on Periscope.
  • You can give hearts as the viewer.

Facebook Updates

  • There is a new feed control on Facebook news feeds.
  •  When you click on the Like button of a page, you have drop-down so you could get notifications. This way you will be alerted whenever they have a post.
  • Another feature added is the See first. By this they're going to showing up in the news feed if you add them to See first. They're going to show up higher on the news feed than the other stuff.
  • See First is good news from a brand's perspective but may not be for the average consumers who may still prefer fuzzy cats, hairy dogs, the cute stuff, etc.
  • You can't run an ad through a personal profile anymore thus pages is available for brands or businesses.
  • When running ads on your page, you got to have a strategy behind. If you're going to spend money, you want to have a reason to spend the money.

What we discussed:

  • Tip# 1: Pinterest drive traffic to your website.
  • Re-tweeting posts may not get people to click through the link.
  • We like to help businesses through social media consulting.
  • Tip# 2: In LinkedIn, you can create a custom url for your page.
  • Coming up with your hashtag really depends if it's easier to remember (for short ones) or a long but descriptive ones, which is easier to identify.
  • #workfromhomedads campaign is to teach kids while working from home.
  • Terry will be creating videos that will help people get a better grasp on whatever it is they are trying to do and his daughter will put it out to share.
  • Rewards are motivation for kids.
  • In YouTube, you may earn residual income from the old videos you post that are continuously being viewed over time.
  • Businesses takes time to build, it's not an overnight thing.
  • It is better to have fewer fans that are engaging on a page compared to a lot that are doing nothing.
  • #workfromhomedads covers different categories - LinkedIn, love-attraction and a proposed book about 6 degrees of connectedness.
  • The 6 degrees of connectedness are with yourself, other people, planet, technology, universe, and your bliss.
  • Came up with an offer to film businesses and let them formulate who their business is.
  • #workfromhomedads is teaching people that you can turn being home with your kids into something that can turn around and profit.
  • Tip# 3: We need the profit to make a business in order to stay on business.

  • Overcoming obstacles by moving on instead of quitting.
  • We have to move forward and make it work in the end.
  • We don't have an edit button in real life but we can edit our thoughts.
  • Cliche goes life is 10% what happens to you and 90% is how you respond to it.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Periscope is getting popular for easy live streaming experience though not as professional as it has to be.
  • Being authentic is better.
  • Be yourself, be authentic, don't try to be the fake version of what you are in business and real life and people will trust you.
  • Blog is the home on the web so it is important to have synopsis on the blog but not the painstaking way by keeping it short, concise and sweet.
  • Testing is important to see what works and streamline
